Chandan Bhowmick
Biography
Chandan Bhowmick is a Kolkata-based visual artist with over 18 years of professional
experience in painting and creative arts, known for his expressive abstract works and
mastery in Western-style painting. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the prestigious
Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata (2007), along with a Bachelor of Visual
Arts from the Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship (2004), and a Diploma in the
Appreciation of Indian Art from Golpark Ramakrishna Mission. Throughout his career,
Chandan has consistently explored the intersection of tradition and innovation,
producing bold and thought-provoking works that have been widely exhibited across
India and internationally. His participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions
includes recurring showcases at the Birla Academy of Art & Culture (2004-2024), the
CIMA Award Show (2015), Emami Chisel Art, Academy of Fine Arts, Jehangir Art
Gallery in Mumbai, Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi, and galleries in London and
Hyderabad, among others. Chandan's work has been featured in events such as the
Rajya Charukala Utsav, Art Bengaluru, and exhibitions organized by Indian Oil, DD
Art Space, Holding Hands, and Nirvana Art Gallery. His accolades include the
prestigious Rabindranath Tagore Award and Certificates of Merit in both painting and
photography from the Government College of Art & Craft, the NIRMAN Award, a
Principal's Award, and international creative recognition from MAAC Mumbai.
Dedicated to artistic growth and community engagement, Chandan has actively
participated in numerous workshops, including the "Chitrasala" artist residencies
held in Rishikesh (2025), Dharamshala (2024), Mukteshwar (2023), and at the Lake
Nahargarh Palace in Udaipur (2015, 2017, 2018), along with early workshops such
as the Howrah Railway 150 Years Celebration in 2004.Beyond his work as a practicing
artist, he has contributed to the academic and professional development of students
during his tenure at MAAC Girish Park (2007-2015) and Futuar Campus School
(2004-2006). His creative pursuits extend into short filmmaking, photography,
sculpting, and digital arts, with proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
Passionate, versatile, and deeply rooted in artistic exploration, Chandan Bhowmick
continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art while staying connected to the
cultural heritage of India.
