Artist
Basuki Das Gupta
Biography
Basuki Dasgupta was born and raised in Bishnupur, West Bengal, where the rich legacy of terracotta temples deeply influenced his early artistic sensibilities. He pursued Fine Arts at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, studying under the guidance of Jogen Chowdhury, and completed his postgraduate degree in Mural Painting in 1994.
Dasgupta’s practice reinterprets the figure of Goddess Durga through the lens of contemporary Indian womanhood—depicting resilient, industrious individuals navigating multiple roles in everyday life. His works are marked by textured surfaces and mural-inspired compositions, engaging with themes of mythology, spirituality, and human relationships.
He has exhibited widely across India. Alongside his studio practice, Dasgupta has been actively involved in teaching painting and art history, contributing to both academic and community-based art initiatives. His work continues to explore the dynamic intersection of tradition and contemporary expression.
